About us
LuPa is Lucinda and Paul. I'm Paul, and I've worked professionally in photography for five decades. When my daughter Lucinda chose photography for her GCSE, I was delighted. She wanted to take it seriously, so I gave her one of my older Canon DSLRs and we started working together.
I wanted to help her anticipate a picture rather than discover it by accident afterwards. I call photographers who snap, look at the screen, then snap again "the chimpers". My aim was to move her from the accidental to the deliberate. When we're out with our cameras, I try to weave her path by stopping and looking around. After two years, she has stopped machine-gunning the scenery. Now she looks at the scene before hitting the shutter, rather than looking at the image after. Looking before the shutter changes everything.
Lucinda was the one who first said I should sell my prints. People had been commenting on my photographs online, and she thought they were quite good too. I took a selection of prints to the Shrewsbury Flaxmill gift shop, then she asked if she could sell some of hers as well. That is how LuPa began.
She is especially proud of a series she took at Herculaneum and a photograph of weathered rocks in Lanzarote. I love seeing her find her own way of looking.
When someone hangs one of my prints on their wall, I want them to feel as if they have been there too, almost as if I was holding their hand when I took the shot. That is what I hope our pictures bring into your home.
